Registration is open until Feb. 28 for the 2018 Apopka Youth Works summer employment and career exploration program.Apopka Youth Works – a partnership between the City of Apopka and CareerSource Central Florida - is available to Apopka area high school juniors and seniors who are 16 years or older by June 1. The program runs June 11 to Aug. 3.Interested students can apply online at www.apopkayouthworks.com .Participants in Apopka Youth Works will work for seven weeks next summer at various local businesses, learning employment skills and earning weekly paychecks paid through Apopka Youth Works. A financial literacy day in May teaches about money management and smart spending habits. In June, Valencia College will teach workplace essentials skills training such as writing resumes, dressing and performing at work. Students will get their own bank accounts with paychecks directly deposited. They can monitor their money online through a mobile phone application.Students also undergo online computer training through support from The U.S. Conference of Mayor’s DollarWise Campaign, which serves as the Conference’s financial capability program.More than 300 students submitted applications for the 2017 Apopka Youth Works program. Many were interviewed, and 100 were selected based on their eligibility.
